Self hypnosis to combat neurological illness

Instructions

 

Self hypnosis is an enjoyable, and totally safe experience, during which the mind remains conscious and in control. Once the state of hypnotic relaxation has been reached, the subconscious mind is able to ‘listen in' and absorb information, suggestion and other content which bring about the therapeutic changes .

Below is a short, 15-20 minute or so, self hypnosis/visualisation session that will enable you to utilise the power of the mind to combat neurological illness. I have been expermenting with using hypnosis to help those with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and Parkinson's Disease for many years and this script has been carefully constructed and tested to get the maximum effect possible. This particular script is designed to be accompanied with music in the background, so for the best effect find some very relaxing, calming but positive music - but avoid using music you find even remotely gloomy.

If you are using it for yourself, you could record the script first, using your own voice. To do this use a dictaphone, cassette machine, computer, or anything that will let you record. Once recorded you should then listen to it on headphones. Ideally, get someone else to read it out or record it for you. When reading the script out, speak slowly and naturally, leaving 4 or 5 seconds between each phrase (as indicated by the dotted lines).

Note : As with listening to hypnosis CDs or Mp3 downloads, if you suffer from serious mental illness, consult a doctor or psychiatrist before using this hypnosis script. Do not use if you have a fear of going down steps.

Do this self hypnosis exercise as often as you enjoy, but at least once a week. You can modify or vary it to suit your own imagination if you wish but keep it simple. If you are not sure if you are “getting it right” simply go for enjoyment. Enjoying the exercise is the most important thing.

Change the wording (to suit your own particular needs) anywhere as you wish, but remember to be careful if you decide to make any additions or changes because the subconscious mind sometimes takes things very literally . For example do not add a phrase like “all inflammation in my brain will disappear”… because, although unlikely, for all we know there may be inflammation there that is a necessary part of the healing process.

If you do not usually visualise well, do not worry, it is not important. Remember, just go for enjoyment , there is no need to “see” anything, no need to strain to see things, any more than you would if someone was reading you a book or story. Imagine you have a pair of very dark glasses on if you wish, and can see nothing! It will make no difference to the power or success of the session. Simply imagine what it would be like if you were a good visualiser.

If you find you are poor at concentrating or relaxing then this exercise will be of particular benefit to you because you will gradually be learning how to concentrate and relax as well as utilising the healing power of your mind

If you are interrupted, for example by the phone or doorbell, simply open your eyes and you will come straight out of hypnosis, though some individuals may feel a little like being disturbed from sleep. When you resume, you will most likely find that you can simply restart from where you broke off and will quickly return to the same depth of deep calm. If not, restart from the beginning.

 Self-hypnosis script to combat neurological illness

As soon as you're ready the first thing I want you to do is make yourself nice and comfortable……..take in a deep, deep breath……….and when you're ready breathe out any tension………....and if your eyes are not already closed, allow them to close in your own time……..…now I'd like you to become very aware of all of the sound going on around you…….any sounds that might filter in from the outside world….however loud or soft……maybe the sounds of aeroplanes, people or cars…..….no longer blocking out any sound….just giving in to all sounds or silences…..allowing the everyday world…. to carry on all around you……while you enjoy….. beginning to relax……as if every sound is taking you a little deeper…….into a familiar feeling of relaxation…….and there are times in everyone's life when we tune into sound…..like when you're two or three days into a really good holiday….maybe finding yourself on a really lovely beach you've never been to before….

And for some reason you decide to remain completely motionless on this beach for a while…….perhaps to take in the very pleasant atmosphere……or become aware of the colours around you…….and you realise it's a very special place…….you might notice the calming effect of the sea…….or the familiar smells or sounds of the beach……..and for a while you simply enjoy remaining there doing nothing……. just enjoying the gentle feeling of the sun…….a lovely feeling of warmth…….and the incredible feeling of simply being alive……………..

And while you remain on that beach I would like you to begin to become aware of whatever sensation you are noticing right now in your own hands…….that sensation could be altered by your illness…….or it could be completely normal and natural…….but whatever sensation you are noticing in your hands right now I would like you to become very…… very aware of that sensation…….could be the feeling of the skin….…could be a feeling of tingling …….or even the natural circulation of the blood in your hands or fingers……whatever sensation you are noticing in your hands I would like you to become very…….very aware of that sensation……to give in to that sensation….and as you are becoming more and more aware of that sensation in your hands…….so you are becoming more aware, of your own hands…….much more aware than usual……..and as you become more and more aware of your own hands…so you are becoming more and more aware of the sensation in your hands…… ……and you can begin to allow every muscle in your body to relax….. and you might even notice a very pleasant warm feeling beginning to flow into your body as you enjoy relaxing…. A growing feeling of calm….. you may notice the sun sparkling beautifully on the waves…… or the blueness of the sky above you ……or the way the air feels on a really lovely day…but what you are enjoying more than anything is a delightful feeling of deep calm……as if all your everyday cares and worries……were miles away……and mean nothing to you enjoy being in this very beautiful place……………..

And now I would like you to become more aware of yourself……..particularly any feelings or emotions you might have been blocking out….whether they are happy……. sad…… painful…… or whatever you spontaneously notice now ……..even if those feelings are upsetting……. and there is no need for you to analyse those feelings at this stage… …I just want you to completely give in to how you are naturally feeling right now….…give in to those feelings for the time being…no longer blocking them out……that's it……...accepting the situation in your life right now….giving in….just for the time being….you might even like to imagine that you are a kind of spectator who has somehow stepped into your own body for a short time to experience what it feels like to be you…. pretend you are an outsider, feeling what is like to be in your body…your situation…and because you are now an outside observer you can be detached…just curious…taking notes….you can now feel what its like to be you….feel what it's like to be inside this body….notice where there is any tension or discomfort…….and now be aware of the emotions or feelings inside this mind…..

As you do this exercise you can relax…for the time being you are just an outside observer…for the time being you can stand aside from all your everyday feelings and emotions….you might even be a little surprised or sympathetic as you find out what it feels like to be in this body...in this head…in this situation…to experience these emotions…if you wish you can relax this mind and body a little more…..as you do this you can temporarily enjoy standing aside from your own life…your own situation for awhile….just be an observer…just enjoy a brief holiday from being you for a while….just imagine you are this observer inside of you….

And now as you return to being you… you can enjoy letting goof any remaining tension in your body…allowing the muscles to drop down and relax just as much as they want to naturally and easily….…as if you are actually on that lovely beach…in a particularly nice place…where everything seems to be perfect…how you really like it…then you begin to feel as if a little boy is standing behind you or to the side…staring at you…and as you slowly turn round…there is a little boy there…he's been staring at you the whole time….his mother smiles at you somewhere in the background….and you've never seen such a natural and gentle little boy before…he is completely absorbed in the atmosphere of this beach…and although he is a very shy little boy he wants to show you a beautiful stone like a jewel that he holds in one of his hands…cautiously he brings the stone right up close towards your face…almost too close…but you get a good look at this jewel…as you take the jewel into one of your hands…it is much more beautiful than you thought it would be…and as you focus your eyes more carefully on the jewel…a tremendous feeling of calm is beginning to flow right into you…and the little boy completely relaxes in your presence……….

Then you begin to realise there is something curious about that jewel…it feels like it is beginning to tingle in your grasp…and you realise it is tingling…it is releasing a natural energy into your hand…you allow the healing energy to flow into your arm and into all of your body…then the energy seems to double up its power…but you don't mind…instinctively you bring the jewel a little closer….and then…the most beautiful lights you have ever seen….begin to shine from the lovely jewel….becoming rays of colour that shine directly towards your (fore)head…and It does not matter whether you can see those colours or whether you are just thinking about them...but if you could see them ….…you would never have seen such beautiful incredible colours and patterns……..and as this wonderful healing light travels from the jewel…so it is able to travel right into your head….…going deep into your brain….as the healing rays travel into every cell you may even close your eyes as you sit or stand there on the beach…...the child begins to nod softly…..…still smiling…….seeming to know of the healing properties of the jewel……and you imagine these beautiful powerful beams and rays…….these dancing colours able to travel into every cell…every nerve….and right down into your spine…….and on into any part of your body you wish to be healed…repaired or soothed….this wonderful light is a powerful instruction...it is a signal to your body's own natural healing ability to be switched up to full…to heal and to repair any neurological damage…..any damaged tissue within your brain or spine……or any part of your body that is in need of repair…is to be repaired…any active or dormant viruses or organisms that have caused or are causing damage to be irradiated or rendered harmless…any unnecessary inflammation is to disappear…any unnecessary tissue to be removed or destroyed… …any useful lost tissue to be re-grown or replaced...and for all healthy nerve functions to be reinstated in full…any damaged nerves or tissue surrounding nerves to be repaired… for any misaligned cells to be realigned……..

Deep down at the very centre of you is a tremendous power that is beyond your conscious awareness…but that power is able to hear my words just as clearly as you yourself can hear my words….and I call upon that wonderful power to heal…….to heal your body….to understand that this is your will……………

And your mind is now free to drift away wherever it wants to go….maybe across water that sparkles in the sun…..or wherever it wishes to go….but these words you are hearing will go with you wherever you go….and as your mind continues to drift away…so it continues to relax….and as you return to your daily life….you will notice that your nerves are beginning to become a little stronger and steadier….and incredible feelings of wellbeing are beginning to flow into you at different times of the day….these periods of time are increasing with each day that goes by…and you will notice…that you are beginning to feel a little physically and mentally stronger…that you are better able to handle every situation in your life….your mind becoming a little clearer…and feelings of optimism are coming through all by themselves…….

You are finding better ways of handling stress and coping with stress… much more easily…making it a much bigger priority in your life…and you are beginning to abandon… the habit of constantly dwelling in thought… trying to solve everything by going over things again and again…instead you are becoming much more decisive…taking action far more easily and swiftly…trusting far more to your natural inner wisdom….your natural intuition and spontaneity….letting go of perfectionism…..and with every day that goes by you find that you are focusing far more off yourself and becoming a person who gets on with things rather than spends most of the time thinking about things….and when there are problems in your life that require action…you are taking action much more easily and decisively….and when no action is possible…when there are things in life that simply cannot be changed no matter what you do…you are accepting those things….. powerfully…and gracefully…..as if opening your arms to them…you find that you are more in control of your feelings and emotions….no longer letting things get to you so much….better able to let things go or shrug things off from time to time…finding it much easier to let things go……..

Everything that I am saying that is appropriate to you…is being absorbed very deeply within you…with every day that goes by you find….there is a much deeper foundation of calm beneath everything you're doing…whether you are working…or relaxing….whatever is going on in your life…you enjoy that deeper foundation of calm being there beneath everything…..nothing is able to get to you or upset you in quite the same way…

And the scene is now gradually changing….. and you imagine yourself…. a little way into the future….a little healthier…a little stronger…any symptoms of your illness disappearing…you can hardly believe it…I'd like you to imagine yourself there in the future…much healthier and stronger…feeling much better within yourself….able to do far more things…making a steady recovery… …so many faculties returned or returning….other people around you may be a little surprised or even puzzled at how well and how quickly you are recovering…….

…..the chances are they completely unaware of the tremendous power of your own inner mind…a power which is now totally on your side….which is now doing everything it can to help you and to heal you…

Of course there will still be ups and downs in your life as there are in everyone's life…but from now on...you are far better able to handle every moment in your life….far more philosophically….constantly looking on the brighter side of things….in a way that will delight you and perhaps even surprise you…abandoning all the habits of stewing in thought and worrying about things….as a completely useless pastime…that never really solved anything….all it did was stop you making the most out of life…..of course by trusting more to your intuition and spontaneity you may occasionally make the odd mistake…but from now on ….you are no longer beating yourself up about mistakes….instead you are learning from them as quickly as you can…accepting them …and moving on….finding peace of mind….as I say these words…the little boy on the beach is nodding slowly and smiling gently as if in agreement….there is much to be admired in the natural approach to life of small children…or people who live in cultures or civilisations where life is much less pressured….not churning things over in your mind endlessly…but a much simpler better way…where you just accept the highs and lows as they come….just doing the best you can in the present moment…

You will also notice that as your mind relaxes......so your memory is improving...... your mind is becoming a little quicker and more coherent....and you are finding it far easier to focus and concentrate........and if ever you notice you are unable to recall something......you are no longer being hard on your mind or memory....you are never squeezing or straining your memory in any way.....instead ....when there are blockages....you are relaxing your mind completely....allowing everything to come through.....in its own time...all by itself.......your mind is gradually finding new pathways...new ways of retriving information or memories...and the more patient you become...the more clear....creative...... and efficient your mind is becoming......

Presently…you will hear me counting up from one to ten…bringing you all the way back to normal waking consciousness….at the count of 8 you will open your eyes…at the count of 10 you will be wide awake…fully wide awake…. you will wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed with a feeling of well being all over…looking forward to the rest of the day or evening….so ready….1….2…..waking right up now….3…..4…..waking up….5….6….7…..8….eyes open…wide open….9….10….wide awake….fully wide awake.
